HORSEBACK TREKS

Staying overnight in ranches, the several-day horseback trek rambles at a
leisurely pace through the breathtaking Honduran mountains or over the
pristine Caribbean sand of the beach.

Horseback trekking may also be included in other several-day and Moskitia
trips because often the terrain is easier tackled on horseback, making the
horse the best mode of transport.

HORSE TREKKING 3 DAYS YARUCA

Super horsebackriding, crossing rivers and mountains. The covered Maya Temples
of La Colorada, the Chibcha Petroglyph Rock! Real ranches, fincas and “rancheros” Day 1) Starting at the OMEGA JUNGLE LODGE it is a beautiful ride in our 4x4 to a ranch in the
Rio Blanco valley.

There we saddle our horses and ride our animals to Los Limpios, a small mountain
community, all adobe houses with thatched roof. Outstanding scenery and the friendliest
people. After 3-4 hours we are back at our ranch and set the tents up - or we sleep
rancher -style in a hammock. Day 2) After a hearty breakfast (rancher style) we ride
our horses through the Rio Blanco into Rio Viejo valley.

There begins the galoping part. We come to a small adobe and thatched roof village
called La Colorada. Where we see 61 hills, all supposed to be covering Maya temples.
The ride goes steep up a mountain range -excellent view over three valleys- then down
to a place on the river shore called La Pita: 4 or 5 huts and really remote living people.

This is where we spend our second night. We rest and leave our luggage at the Finca.
Later in the afternoon we ride or hike just one mile to a beautiful carved rock, just in
the same manner as the Petroglyphs of the Rio Platano. A Chibcha tribe was living here
about 2 to 4 thousand years ago.

Coming back, theres time to swim and relax in one of the cristal clear pools of the
Viejo river. Another relaxing night, out in the jungle, this time Finca style. Day 3)
Breakfast Finca Style , saddling horses, saying good bye to the wonderful people of La Pita.

Our trak goes along the old riverbed of the Viejo river,riding through the jungle, in the
riverbed. We cross the river several times,our horses with their stomach in the water!
Reaching the village of Rio Viejo we say good bye to our horses, 20 min later we are back
at the lodge. Refresh in our pool! -Sorry, end of trip.

RIO SICO - RAFTING & MULES IN THE MOSKITIA 6 DAYS RAFTING CLASS II AND III.

Adventurous mule ride, Sandy and muddy 4x4. A all around experience!
Day 1: we leave early in the morning towards Olancho, the “wild east” of Honduras:
there are heaps of men in boots and jeans,a Cowboy hat on their head, riding their
horse. Our ride takes approx.4 hrs. Coming to La Balsa bridge we pump the raft up and
strap the gear into it. 2 hrs. of rafting and we set up camp for the first time:
collecting firewood, cooking on open fire, taking a shower in the river.

Day 2 and 3: Whitewaterrafting all day long… long flat parts that give us time to enjoy the beautiful scenery and good class II and III rapids. Around 4 p.m. we look out for a sand bank to spend the night. Excellent camp spots.

Day 4: After a hearty breakfast it is still ½ a day of rafting to get to a village of 4 huts with
a giant dugout canoe. We stay with the family at nightand enjoy a real Miskito dinner:
Rice, beans and tortillas. It is a different live in Miskito villages.

Day 5: After a real Miskito breakfast our mules wait for us already. It is a long day on the animals, crossing a mountain range to get to empty caribbean beaches, riding the mules
along it at sunset. The garifuna village of Punta De Piedra will give us shelter for the night.

Day 6: Early morning we jump on a 4x4. What follows is off road of its best: first we ride
along the beach, then turning inlands. Often we hafe to jump off the trucks, push and pull.
Depending on the weather conditions it takes us 4 to 7 hrs. Reaching Las Jicoteas (the turtles)
we swap into a OMEGA adventure vehicle that brings us back to La Ceiba, where this trip
ends. Or enjoy your free night in our JUNGLE LODGE on the Cangrejal river in
Pico Bonito National Park.
