For the more experienced outdoor traveler, these multi-day
excursions offered by OMEGA TOURS will be one of the
extreme highlights of your life!

It's an all-round adventure, exploring and traveling the heart of
La Mosquitia from inland to the coast and observing the best animal
and natural spot in Central America.

Camping for most of the trips, our guests will need a 'survival spirit'
and the ability to approach certain 'difficult' situations with a clear
and level head (a true test of the ardent outdoor traveler!).

Our expedition trips will be exhausting but you will be properly 'fuelled'
by the hearty appetizing open-fire meals, (no dieting on our trips!),
prepared by your Guide. Our Rio Platano expedition excursions
are unforgettable and arguably the most mind-blowing
experiences of a lifetime

JUNGLE RIVER EXPERIENCE 8 DAYS

Rios Wampu and Patuca - we build our own balsawood rafts!
floating downriver, manoevering through rapids, meeting
the last Tahwaka tribe, later Miskito people. enjoying nature
at its best.

Day 1: we leave from La Ceiba or Tegucigalpa towards
Dulce Nombre de Culmi,the entrance into the Moskitia.
Then the road gets really bad,driving towards the Rio Lagarto
(alligator river),through Llarona and Papayo.eventually
you stay overnight in a very basic hotel or we set up
the camp-just to get used to it.

Day 2: the mules carry the equipment, we guide our mules
and walk to the headwaters of the Rio Lagarto (approx. 4 hours)
and a ranch called Villa Linda. Here we start building our raft
out of balsa wood. Camp tonight.

Day 3 - 5: we raft the Wampu river and try to manoever our rafts
as good as we can through small rapids.

Day 5 we reach the Patuca river, the longest stream in Honduras.
We will see excellent wildlife and intense jungle. Hopefully we are
lucky enough to catch some of the delicious river-fish. Iin the
afternoons we check for good campspots,set up the tents,
light a campfire.at the end of day 5 we reach Krausirpi,the last
real Tawahka community.

Day 6: We leave our rafts behind and switch to motorized dugout
canoes, some of them 40 ft. long. 4 hours downriver theres
Wampusirpi, a Miskito cummunity.in the afternoon there is time
to check the village out.people find Maya artifacts, planting their
crops.this night we spend in Dona Marthas guesthouse.

Day 7: in our pipante to Ahuas,the landscape changes a lot:we
get out of the mountainous areas into flatlands.and the river goes in circles.

Day 8: after breakfast we explore the surrounding of Ahuas,see how the native
Miskitos are living.noon we are back in La Ceiba.shuttle to your hotel
and end of the trip.or enjoy your free night in our beautiful Jungle Lodge
at the Cangrejal river in Pico Bonito National Park.

What To Bring: boots or tennis, for raft & kayak also river sandals,
long pants, shorts, fleece or sweater for the night, light raincoat,
torch, insect repellent, sunblock, sunhat or cap, towel. Got a
drybag or a light sleeping bag? bring it! Try not to bring too much !!!

EXPEDITION TO THE RIO PLATANO 13 DAYS

the best wildlife trip all over C.A.: on4x4, mules, hike,
raft, dugout canoe, tuc tuc, propeller plane.

Day 1: We pick you up in La Ceiba, San Pedro Sula or
Tegucigalpa and ride our 4x4 over paved- and dirt roads to
Catacamas, a typical “cowboy town”. The last hotel, for the next
couple of nights.

Day 2: Coming through Dulce Nombre De Culmi and Las Arenas,
the dirtroad is getting really bad. Sometimes we have to get
off our vehicle, to walk a few meters. Finally we get to
Bonanza and stay with a local family -in their living room or
we use our tents. Nightfall is early and there is no
electricity in Bonanza.

Day 3: After rice and beans we load our mules up and start
walking towards the Rio Platano. Leaving Bonanza behind we
walk through primary rainforest and areas where cattle farmers
burnt down wide areas. At the end of the day we are in pure,
uninhabited rainforest. For the first time we set our camp up,
collect firewood and cook on our campfire.

Day 4: After campfire coffee we load up the mules again, around
mid day we reach Guarasca, where Rio Blanco and Rio Guarasca
meet to form the Rio Platano. That’s where we pump up the raft
and set up our first river camp.

Day 5-7: Rafting on the Platano river. There are some class II and
III rapids, most of the rafting is just floating and enjoying nature.
We will see a lot of wild animals, definitely the best wildlife in
Central America. Till we reach Las Marias we will not have any
contact at all to any form of civilization, including contact to
human beings.

Day 8: The day of the Subterrano: the whole river disappears
under a immense rock. We have to portage our raft several
times: The mile- long george keeps us busy all day long.
At the end of that day we gonna need a nice and big meal.

Day 9-11: In our raft through primary rainforest, enjoying
nature at its best. We will see the three Petroglyph sites, supposed
to be signs, leading ancient traders to the White City, more than
3000 years ago the most important center in C.A.. End of day 11
we reach Las Marias: Civilisation got us back- almost. This Miskito
village is built out of wood, bamboo and palm leaves.
Finally We gonna get rice and beans again and sleep in a
very basic hospedaje” build in Miskito style: on poles, out
of wood and a thatched roof.

Day 12: The deflated raft, all our equipment including ourselves
go on a pipante (motorized dugout canoe) downriver, towars
the coast. Here and there theres Miskito people living in their
typical houses along the river, planting yucca, rice and -of
course- plantains. Just before we reach the coast, we turn
into a narrow channel, full of mangroves, to bring us to the
Lagoon of Ibans.

We stop in a small village, called Raista, on the 100m wide
sandstrip between sweetwater lagoon and empty Caribbean
beaches. In case we do not arrive too late, we visit the butterfly
farm, next to the village. We take a tour through the farm and
learn more about butterflies. If we are lucky we can even see
one hatch. Tonight we sleep in our tents or in the guesthouse
of the local family. The same family prepares dinner for us.

Day 13: In the early morning a Tuc-Tuc takes us through Ibans Lagoon
and a labyrinth of natural channels to Palacios. The “bushhopper
plane” lands on the soccer field in the middle of the village and takes
us back to civilization: La Ceiba, end of trip or we pick you up and
you enjoy your FREE !!! night in our Lodge, on the beautiful
Cangrejal river in Pico Bonito National Parc. Enjoy a cold beer
in our freshwater pool and a excellent dinner at night.

RIO PATUCA - THE JUNGLE EXPERIENCE 12 DAYS

the longest stream in Honduras -from the headwaters
almost to the coast, a real jungle experience

Day 1: We leave La Ceiba in the early morning, better
Tegucigalpa, driving towards Juticalpa and the confluence
of Rio Guayape and Guayambre, meeting to form the longest
river in Honduras: the Rio Patuca. Tonight we gonna stay in
a hospedaje and prepare tomorrows expedition.

Day 2: After breakfast we drive to the river, inflate the raft,
load our equipment and go: into the wilderness, floating
down the Patuca until we find our beach for camping. We
collect firewood, set up our tents, prepare tonights bed.
We definitely left civilization behind!

Days 3 to 9: Pure Nature! These days we really live in and
with the nature. We try to catch our own fish - are you
experienced? Primary rainforest, macaw, tapir, deer,
turtles, nutria, monkeys, aguatusa, armadillo, pizote,
agouti, anteaters, wild pigs, alligators and crocodiles.

This trip is excellent for bird watching, we could even
meet a jaguar, definitevly we will see excellent wildlife.
One out of these days we use to explore the rainforest by
foot, all the rest we float and paddle downriver - enjoying
nature. Do not think you have to live on beans and tortilla.
We provide a variety of excellent food, cooked on campfires.

Day 10: We arrive in Krausirpi, but civilization is still far.
We stay overnight in the last real Tawahka village.
There are approximately 600 Tawahkas left on our
planet! Here is the first place to hire a motorized
dug-out canoe, called Pipante.

Day 11: In our Pipante downriver to Ahuas. The landscape
changes a lot: we get out of mountainous areas into flatlands.
Now there are heaps more people living along the river.

Day 12: After breakfast we explore the surrounding of Ahuas,
see how the native Miskitos are living. In the afternoon we
are back in La Ceiba. Shuttle to your hotel and end of the trip.
